Dr. Gao’s laboratory is interested in the biology of infection and oncogenesis of tumor viruses. The current focus is on Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and its associated cancers.

Dr. Gao is a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology in the USC Keck School of Medicine. His laboratory is located at the Harlyne Norris Research Tower (NRT). Dr. Gao is a member of the USC Institute for Emerging Pathogens and Immune Diseases and a member of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer center. He is also a faculty member of the Programs in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (PIBBS) and Ph.D. Program in Medical Biology (MEDB).
